Made only by exclusive order from the factory in Sweden, Volvo has made its range-topping XC90 Excellence available for South African purchase.
For a retail price of R1 550 500, customers can expect to receive the carmaker’s flagship SUV armed with their T8 Twin Engine, with the hybrid drivetrain being located at front and back ends of the car. At the front, a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 235 kW and 400 Nm that is sent to the front wheels via an eight-speed transmission. At the back, a 9.2 kWh battery pack good for 65 kW and 240 Nm, the output of which is then sent to the back wheels, thus completing the All-Wheel-Drive system of the car. Drivers are also able to switch between engines from the corresponding driving modes of Pure and Hybrid.
Inside, one will find a barn’s worth of leather adorning every surface. The XC90 Excellence is defined by a few additional items to the features list, with emphasis being placed on the rear passenger convenience, and the elimination of engine external noise. The two rear seats now offer full adjustment with side bolsters and an extendable cushion. There is now also a fridge located between the two seats, with heated and cooled cup holders to accommodate beverages. Other major additions include the installation of a rear seat touch-screen control panel for all temperature and seat adjustment options, a glass partition between rear passengers and boot space, and a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 20 speakers.
Standard feature also include a heated steering wheel, an air quality system, internet connectivity, rear window blinds, voice control and adaptive cruise control, to name a few.
Safety features are also many in number, which include Pilot Assistance semi-autonomous driving up to 130 km/h, park assist pilot, intersection automatic braking, Whiplash Protection System, and seven airbags.
The Volvo XC90 Excellence comes with 5-year/100 000 km full vehicle warranty and maintenance plan.
