With the Los Angeles Motor Show just around the corner, car companies have begun with sneak peeks with what are expected to be their highlights at the show. This year, Audi is expected to show off the next generation of its A5 Cabriolet.
While boasting an exterior relatively similar to the outgoing model and of Audi’s current motif, the Cabriolet has undergone minor changes all round and major change under its bonnet. With a body now 47 mm longer and an extension of the wheelbase by 14 mm, the result is a slightly bigger boot of 380 liters and more legroom for the back seats. Weight has also been shed with the car being 40 kg lighter than before, as well as a new one-touch automatic roof that can open in 15 seconds and close in 18 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h.
As for engine choice, derivatives from the A5 coupe range are available, which include a 2.0 liter TFSI turbopetrol good for 185 kW, and two turbodiesel engines, a 140 kW 2.0 liter and 160 kW 3.0 liter. The performance-driven S5 Cabriolet benefits from a 3.0 liter TFSI engine which produces 260 kW, geos from zero to a hundred in 5.1 seconds, and is limited to 250 km/h.
Listed features include an automatic boot lid, a 12.3 inch instrument display, and seatbelt earphones to improve voice quality when travelling with the roof down.
Expect the Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet to reach SA shores by the third quarter of next year.
