Adding to their product line-up, Renault South Africa has released pricing and spec details for its new entry-level Kwid hatchback.
With prices set to start at R119 900, two variants and levels of trim are available. The Expression comes standard with air conditioning, electric front windows and Aux/USB input, while Dynamique models benefit from the MediaNav navigation system and 7-inch touchscreen display seen on other models, along with Bluetooth connectivity, metallic paint and a dual-tone dashboard.
Engine wise, both variants are powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.0 liter 3-cylinder good for 50 kW and 91 Nm, with the power being sent to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine is reported to be quite easy on the drink, with Renault claiming that consumers can achieve an average of 4.71 liters/100 km.
Following negative reports from overseas on safety, the Kwid comes equipped with a single airbag for the driver, but no ABS (something that the Kwid has in common with its Datsun Go rival). However, Renault is reportedly looking into the possibility of adding the feature into the Kwid at a later date.
The new Renault Kwid comes standard with a 5-year/150 000km mechanical warranty, with service plans being optional and taking place at 15 000km intervals.
